Mel Grandjamb

Man of action, firefighting hero, traditional teacher

Mel Grandjamb brings a deeply authentic presence to every stage he steps on and every conversation he leads. Our challenge—and honour—was to help translate that presence into a visual identity, digital platform and suite of branded assets that reflect both his power and his purpose.

Sparking possibility across Canada: The story of Mel Grandjamb and Trait’s role behind the brand

Trait has had the privilege of partnering with Mel Grandjamb to do something both powerful and personal: represent Mel by building a brand that is Mel. A man of action, a traditional teacher and a trailblazer for Indigenous communities, Mel Grandjamb brings a deeply authentic presence to every stage he steps on and every conversation he leads. Our challenge—and honour—was to help translate that presence into a visual identity, digital platform and suite of branded assets that reflect both his power and his purpose.

From the beginning, Trait worked alongside Mel to define his brand story and bring it to life. This included developing his logo design, visual identity and a fully custom website that serves as his digital home base. We also produced a promotional video and a collection of original photography to visually capture his essence in action.

To build a strong public presence, we launched and continue to manage Mel’s social media channels, providing ongoing support with content creation, audience engagement and enquiry handling. We also created professional materials like business cards, a speaker one-sheet and custom branded merchandise—from hats to workout gear—to support his engagements on the road.

Currently, we’re collaborating on the launch of his podcast, expanding his platform for storytelling and community connection. In parallel, we recently helped him secure a spot within the Speakers Bureau of Canada, connecting Mel with national audiences and high-impact speaking opportunities.

Who is Mel Grandjamb?

Mel Grandjamb is more than a speaker—he’s a symbol of resilience, transformation and tradition. A former Chief of Alberta’s Fort McKay First Nation, Mel has built a legacy that spans firefighting heroism, business leadership and cultural preservation. His story includes building a company with over 600 employees, protecting communities during the Fort McMurray wildfires, preserving the Moose Lake buffer zone and launching the Awake Cultural Camp to sustain Indigenous traditions.

From taking his schoolbooks to the trapline as a child, to becoming the only Indigenous student in his college program, Mel’s journey has been anything but easy. A second-generation residential school survivor, he’s faced racism, abuse and adversity—but refuses to be defined by it. Instead, he uses his lived experience to motivate change and inspire hope.

With over 30 years of experience in project management, business development and leadership, Mel now shares his wisdom as a keynote speaker, consultant and cultural educator. Whether he’s advising First Nation governance teams or teaching youth how to hunt and fish at Awake Camp, Mel brings humor, humility and deep cultural insight to every endeavor.

How Trait helps share his story

Mel’s story is not just one of personal success—it’s one that empowers others. Trait’s role has been to translate that impact into a cohesive brand, powerful content and meaningful digital touchpoints that reflect the depth of Mel’s offerings:

  • Speaking: From boardrooms to youth conferences, Mel speaks on resilience, tradition, leadership and healing.
  • Consulting: He offers strategic guidance to Indigenous leadership teams on socio-economic growth, agreements and governance.
  • Awake Cultural Camp: This unique initiative preserves traditional practices for future generations, blending culture, community and healing.

Trait is proud to stand behind Mel Grandjamb—amplifying his voice and vision as he sparks possibility from coast to coast. We’re honoured to continue this journey, sharing in his mission to inspire, empower and preserve.
